Campbeltown is the ideal location for your short break/holiday. Approximately 140 miles fromm Glasgow and 185 miles from Edinburgh. It is situated towards the end of the Kintyre peninsula and well worth the journey!
Golf! Golf! Golf! We are spoiled for choice. World famous Machrihanish Golf Club, the newer, Machrihanish Dunes and Dunaverty Golf Club (Southend) are all within a 10 minute drive of the property. Further up the east coast is Carradale Golf Club (9 holes) and Gigha, Islay and Arran are also a worthwhile day trip away.
Kintyre has a wealth of beautiful scenery with beaches to the east, west and south of the peninsula. So, whether you enjoy surfing or enjoying a family day out with some sandcastle building, there is a beach to suit everyone! If forest and hill walks are more appealing to you, then this area is home to the Kintyre Way, combining serious hiking and gentle rambles. It runs 161 km from Tarbert to Machrihanish and takes in fantastic views across the sea to Gigha, Islay, Jura and Arran on the east coast. Of course, you can complete part or all of it and in any order you wish.
Campbeltown is also host to the Mull of Kintyre Music Festival which is held in August and attracts many famous and upcoming bands and singers. There is a great variety of genres appearing in various different venues as well as outdoor stages. The town is usually very busy at this time and the atmosphere is fantastic. This year's festival runs from 17th - 21st August.
For those who are a bit more energetic, there is the very popular MOK 10k and half marathon which is held at the end of May each year and is usually booked up very early so you will have to be quick! The half marathon takes you through some spectacular scenery with a section of the run going through Machrihanish Dunes Golf Club and across the beach at Westport. This year's run takes place on Sunday 29th May.
If whisky is your thing, then Campbeltown is home to 3 well known distilleries, Springbank, Glen Scotia and Glengyle with all offering tours and tasting.
The area is home to many fine pubs, restaurants and coffee shops catering for all tastes.
